In my opinion, 1st Edition is WAY better, however the core set is not nearly as good in the 1st Edition. Start w/ a couple of the House-Specific deluxe expansions if you do decide to buy anything else, they typically add at least 2 new deck archetypes for each faction, as well as some solid neutral cards.
